bad snap
Center's errant throw
A bad snap is a mishandled exchange between the center and quarterback in American football—the ball goes off-target, hits the ground, or arrives at the wrong moment.
The term extends to any botched handoff or transfer in other contexts.
A bad snap often leads to turnovers, failed plays, or desperate scrambles: The bad snap sailed over the punter's head.
