back turn

Dismissive physical rejection

A back turn is a rotation in which you turn away from someone or something, pivoting so your back faces where your front was.

In dance and gymnastics, it describes spinning with the back leading the movement rather than the chest.

Figuratively, to give someone the back turn is to reject or dismiss them: She gave him the back turn when he tried to apologize.
