art experts
Painting and sculpture specialists
Art experts are people with specialized knowledge in evaluating, authenticating, or interpreting works of art.
The term often carries a hint of skepticism—questioning whether their judgments are truly authoritative or merely credentialed opinion: The art experts declared it a forgery, Art experts can't agree on whether the painting is genuine.
Curators, appraisers, and auction house specialists all fall under the label.
