apgar test
Baby health score
The Apgar test is a quick assessment of a newborn's health performed immediately after birth, typically at one and five minutes.
It scores five factors—heart rate, breathing, muscle tone, reflexes, and skin color—each rated 0 to 2, for a maximum of 10.
A low Apgar score signals the need for immediate medical attention.
Named for anesthesiologist Virginia Apgar, who developed it in 1952.
