anti-lock braking system
Pulsing brake technology
An anti-lock braking system is a safety feature in vehicles that prevents wheels from locking up during hard braking.
When wheels lock, the driver loses steering control and the vehicle skids.
The system rapidly pulses the brakes—releasing and reapplying pressure many times per second—to maintain traction while stopping.
Usually abbreviated ABS: The car's ABS kicked in on the icy road.
