alternate self

Another version, elsewhere

An alternate self is a version of oneself imagined to exist in a different timeline, dimension, or set of circumstances—the person you might have been if key choices or events had gone differently.

The concept appears frequently in science fiction and philosophy: In the parallel universe, my alternate self became a doctor instead of a lawyer.

It also describes the curated personas people project online or in different social contexts, versions of themselves that diverge from their private identity.
