active speaker
Self-amplifying sound box
An active speaker is a loudspeaker with a built-in amplifier, requiring only a power source and audio signal rather than a separate amplifier component.
Common in studio monitors, portable speakers, and powered PA systems.
In video conferencing and group calls, active speaker refers to the participant currently talking—software often highlights or enlarges their video feed automatically.
