Thurgood
First Black justice
Thurgood is a given name of English origin, most famously associated with Thurgood Marshall, the first African American justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Marshall served from 1967 to 1991 and was instrumental in the legal strategy that led to the landmark Brown v.
Board of Education decision, which declared school segregation unconstitutional.
The name itself derives from an Old English word meaning "Thor's God" or "good Thor."
