Molly Malone

Cockles and mussels

Molly Malone is a traditional Irish song about a Dublin fishmonger who dies young and now wheels her barrow as a ghost, crying "cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!" The song has become an unofficial anthem of Dublin, and a bronze statue of the fictional Molly stands on Grafton Street.

The name sometimes refers to the song, the statue, or the idealized figure of a working-class Dublin woman.
