McJob

Go-nowhere service position

A McJob is a low-paying, low-prestige job with few benefits and little opportunity for advancement, typically in the service sector.

The term derives from McDonald's but applies broadly to dead-end retail and fast-food positions: After college, he worked a series of McJobs while looking for something in his field.

The word carries dismissive connotations about both the work and the worker's prospects.
