Lili Marlene
Soldier's sentimental song
Lili Marlene is a German love song from World War II, written about a soldier's sweetheart waiting beneath a streetlamp.
The song became popular with troops on both sides of the conflict, particularly associated with Marlene Dietrich's performances.
The name now evokes wartime nostalgia and the universal longing of soldiers separated from loved ones.
