Leonid
Mid-autumn shooting star
A Leonid is a meteor appearing during the Leonid meteor shower, which occurs annually in mid-November when Earth passes through debris left by the comet Tempel-Tuttle.
The meteors appear to radiate from the constellation Leo, hence the name.
We stayed up past midnight watching for Leonids.
Separately, Leonid is a Russian given name.
