Japanese accent
Nihongo speech pattern
A Japanese accent is the set of pronunciation features that carry over when native Japanese speakers use another language, especially English.
Distinctive markers include difficulty distinguishing L and R sounds, inserting vowels between consonants (desk becomes "desuku"), and syllable-timed rather than stress-timed rhythm.
The term also describes the pitch-accent system within Japanese itself, where tone patterns distinguish otherwise identical words.
