Contemporary art

Contemporary art refers to art produced in the present era, roughly from the 1970s onward.

The term distinguishes current artistic practice from modern art, which covers earlier 20th-century movements.

Contemporary art encompasses diverse media—installation, video, performance, digital work—and often engages with social, political, or conceptual themes rather than purely aesthetic ones.

The museum's contemporary art wing features works by living artists.
