Buffalo Gals

Old minstrel tune

Buffalo Gals is an American folk song from the 1840s, originally titled "Lubly Fan" and performed in minstrel shows.

The song asks local girls to "come out tonight" and dance by the light of the moon.

The title changed to match whatever city performers visited—"Pittsburgh Gals," "Louisiana Gals"—with "Buffalo Gals" becoming the standard version.

The song remains familiar through its use in films and as a children's song.
