Because of Winn-Dixie

Supermarket stray story

Because of Winn-Dixie is a 2000 children's novel by Kate DiCamillo about a lonely girl who adopts a stray dog she names after the grocery store where she finds him.

The book won a Newbery Honor and was adapted into a 2005 film.

The title phrase sometimes appears in broader use to credit an unlikely catalyst for positive change: Because of Winn-Dixie, she made her first real friends.
