Aztec art
Pre-Columbian Mexican creations
Aztec art encompasses the visual arts of the Aztec civilization, which flourished in central Mexico from the 14th to 16th centuries.
It includes monumental stone sculptures, intricate goldwork, featherwork, pottery, and codices—painted manuscripts recording history and ritual.
Much of it served religious purposes, depicting gods, sacrificial imagery, and cosmic symbols.
The museum's Aztec art collection features a massive sun stone.
