zigzag line
Back and forth
A zigzag line is a line that moves by sharp alternating angles, forming a series of Z-shaped turns rather than following a straight or curved path.
The term appears in geometry, design, and everyday description: The chart showed a zigzag line of volatile stock prices.
Any path that proceeds by abrupt back-and-forth changes can be called a zigzag line.
