voluntary recall
Chosen product pullback
A voluntary recall is when a company withdraws a product from the market on its own initiative rather than being ordered to by regulators.
Manufacturers issue voluntary recalls when they discover safety defects, contamination, or other problems: The automaker announced a voluntary recall of 500,000 vehicles.
Though called voluntary, such recalls often come under regulatory pressure or threat of mandatory action.
