untwinned
Lacking a match
Untwinned describes something that exists singly rather than as one of a pair, or that has been separated from its twin.
In crystallography, untwinned crystals lack the internal twinning—intergrown crystal structures—that can complicate analysis: We need an untwinned specimen for accurate measurements.
The word can also describe a town that has ended its formal partnership with a sister city abroad.
