unthaw
Let ice soften
Unthaw means to thaw—to cause something frozen to become unfrozen, or to become unfrozen oneself: Let the meat unthaw before cooking.
Logically, the prefix should reverse the meaning, but unthaw has always been used identically to thaw.
The word is informal and more common in speech than writing.
Some consider it nonstandard.
