unfinished novel
Story never concluded
An unfinished novel is a work of long fiction that was never completed by its author, typically due to death, abandonment, or loss of interest.
Some unfinished novels achieve literary significance despite their incomplete state, like Dickens's *The Mystery of Edwin Drood* or Kafka's *The Castle*, and may be published posthumously with editorial notes about where the manuscript breaks off.
The term also applies more casually to the half-written manuscripts languishing in desk drawers everywhere.
