turned away
Denied and dismissed
Turned away describes being refused entry or service: We were turned away at the door.
It also means to have looked in another direction, often to avoid seeing something: She turned away from the accident scene.
To turn someone away is to reject or dismiss them: The shelter turned away dozens of families that night.
