training schools

Vocational education centers

Training schools are institutions that provide specialized instruction in particular skills or trades, distinct from general academic education.

The term covers vocational programs, professional academies, and technical institutes: a training school for nurses, police training school.

Historically, "training school" was also a euphemism for juvenile detention facilities or reformatories, where troubled youth were ostensibly "trained" toward better behavior.
