trails off

Voice slowly diminishes

To trail off is to gradually fade or diminish, especially when speaking.

A voice trails off when it becomes quieter and less distinct, often because the speaker loses confidence, becomes distracted, or decides not to finish the thought: She started to explain, then trailed off.

Sounds, music, or other phenomena can also trail off into silence or nothingness.
