trail etiquette
Hiker courtesy code
Trail etiquette is the set of unwritten rules governing behavior on hiking, biking, or multi-use paths.
Core principles include yielding right-of-way (uphill hikers have priority, bikes yield to hikers, everyone yields to horses), staying on marked trails, packing out trash, and keeping noise down.
We stepped aside—trail etiquette says horses have the right-of-way.
