traditional narrative
Time-honored tale form
A traditional narrative is a story following conventional structure—typically with a clear beginning, middle, and end, chronological progression, and recognizable characters facing conflict that resolves.
The term often appears in contrast to experimental or nonlinear storytelling: The film abandons traditional narrative for a series of loosely connected vignettes.
In political contexts, traditional narrative can mean the accepted or mainstream account of events, sometimes challenged by revisionist interpretations.
