three-leaf clover

Common lawn plant

A three-leaf clover is simply a clover—the common plant with trifoliate leaves found in lawns and fields.

The term usually appears in contrast to the rare four-leaf clover, which is considered lucky: It's just a three-leaf clover, nothing special.

In Irish tradition, the three-leaf clover (shamrock) symbolizes Ireland and was said to represent the Holy Trinity.
