swamp forest
Waterlogged tree ecosystem
A swamp forest is a wooded wetland where trees grow in permanently or seasonally waterlogged soil.
Unlike marshes, which are dominated by grasses and reeds, swamp forests have tree canopies—cypress, tupelo, mangrove, or other flood-tolerant species.
The swamp forest teemed with herons and alligators.
