struck down
Hit and toppled
Struck down means to invalidate or abolish, typically used when a court overturns a law or ruling: The Supreme Court struck down the ban.
It also means to afflict suddenly and severely—disease or misfortune strikes someone down: He was struck down by a heart attack at forty.
In its most literal sense, to strike down is to knock to the ground with a blow.
