spreader bars
Rigging tension equalizers
Spreader bars are rigid bars used to keep things apart at a fixed distance.
In lifting and rigging, they attach to crane hooks to distribute weight evenly across multiple connection points.
In BDSM, a spreader bar holds a person's wrists or ankles apart, restricting movement during bondage: She fastened the spreader bar to his ankles.
The term also applies to agricultural equipment that disperses fertilizer or seed.
