split verdict
Partial jury agreement
A split verdict occurs when a jury reaches different conclusions on multiple charges or defendants in the same trial—convicting on some counts while acquitting on others, or finding some defendants guilty and others not guilty.
The term also describes situations where jurors remain divided and cannot reach unanimous agreement: The jury returned a split verdict, convicting him of assault but acquitting him of attempted murder.
