speed burst
Quick velocity increase
A speed burst is a sudden, brief acceleration—a short interval of maximum effort or velocity.
Athletes use speed bursts to break away from defenders or close gaps.
The term appears in sports, gaming, and any context where someone or something shifts abruptly from cruising to full throttle: She used a speed burst to pass the lead runner in the final stretch.
