snow snake
Javelin on ice
Snow snake refers to two unrelated things.
In Indigenous North American cultures, particularly among Iroquois and Ojibwe peoples, a snow snake is a long wooden stick hurled down an icy trough in a traditional winter game—the one that travels farthest wins.
Separately, snow snake is humorous slang for an imaginary creature blamed when someone falls on ice: Watch out for snow snakes!
