Slum tourism is the practice of visiting impoverished urban areas as a tourist attraction.
Organized tours take visitors through favelas, shantytowns, and other poor neighborhoods to observe how residents live.
Critics call it exploitative voyeurism that treats poverty as spectacle; defenders argue it raises awareness and can direct money to local communities.
