sing from the same hymn sheet
Present consistent story
To sing from the same hymn sheet is to present a unified message or consistent position, especially in public.
The phrase suggests coordination—everyone agreeing on what to say before facing outsiders: The cabinet needs to sing from the same hymn sheet on this policy.
Often used when such unity is lacking or forced.
Also appears as "sing from the same hymn book" or "song sheet."
