Extra storyline tasks
Side missions are optional tasks in video games that exist alongside the main storyline.
Players can complete them for extra rewards, character development, or world-building, but skipping them won't prevent finishing the game: I spent hours on side missions before touching the main quest.
The term extends to any secondary objective pursued while focused on a primary goal: My side mission was finding good coffee while we toured the city.
