short man syndrome

Height-triggered aggressive posturing

Short man syndrome is the supposed tendency of shorter men to be more aggressive, domineering, or confrontational to compensate for their lack of height.

The idea draws on stereotypes about insecurity and overcompensation: He's got short man syndrome—always picking fights with bigger guys.

Also called Napoleon complex.

Whether the phenomenon exists beyond cultural perception is debated.
