shlub

Unkempt lazy person

A shlub is an ordinary, unremarkable person, often one who is seen as clumsy, awkward, or somewhat pitiable.

The word comes from Yiddish and carries connotations of schlumpiness—someone who may be poorly dressed, socially graceless, or simply unimpressive.

It's usually mildly disparaging but can also be affectionate: He's just a regular shlub trying to get by.

The spelling schlub is equally common.
