sexually transmitted infections
Intimacy-spread medical conditions
Sexually transmitted infections, or STIs, are infections passed between people through sexual contact—vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
Common examples include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, and HIV.
The term has largely replaced "sexually transmitted diseases" (STDs) in medical usage, since many infections can be present without causing disease symptoms.
