secret boss
Concealed ultimate opponent
A secret boss is a hidden enemy in a video game, typically more powerful than the main antagonist and discoverable only through special conditions—completing side quests, finding hidden areas, or meeting obscure requirements.
Secret bosses offer optional challenges for dedicated players seeking content beyond the main storyline: I spent weeks trying to unlock the secret boss.
The term sometimes applies figuratively to hidden power brokers: The CFO is the secret boss around here.
