sealed letters
Unopened written messages
Sealed letters are letters enclosed in envelopes that have been closed and secured, typically with adhesive, wax, or another fastening method.
Historically, the sealed letter carried legal and social weight—opening another person's sealed correspondence was a serious breach of privacy and often a crime.
The term distinguishes from postcards or open documents: Sealed letters were charged a higher postage rate than unsealed circulars.
