rigour mortis

Death's muscle lock

Rigour mortis is a variant spelling of rigor mortis—the stiffening of muscles that occurs in a corpse several hours after death.

The British spelling with -our appears occasionally but is nonstandard; even in British English, the Latin phrase typically retains its original spelling: rigor mortis.
