red-team
Friendly fire testers
Red-team means to test a system's defenses by simulating an attack.
The term comes from military exercises where a "red team" plays the enemy against the defending "blue team." In cybersecurity, red-teaming involves attempting to breach an organization's security to find vulnerabilities before real attackers do.
The practice extends to AI safety, where researchers red-team language models by probing for harmful outputs: We spent months red-teaming the system before release.
