ration stamps

Scarcity allocation tokens

Ration stamps were government-issued coupons that controlled the purchase of scarce goods during wartime or other emergencies.

Most familiar from World War II, they limited how much of items like sugar, meat, gasoline, and coffee a household could buy: Grandma saved her ration stamps for butter.

The system ensured fair distribution when supplies couldn't meet demand.
