publication bans
Censored court reporting
Publication bans are court orders prohibiting the media from reporting certain details of legal proceedings.
They typically protect the identities of victims, witnesses, or minors, or prevent prejudicial publicity that might compromise a fair trial.
Common in Canadian and British courts, they restrict what journalists can publish about ongoing cases: The judge imposed a publication ban on the victim's name.
