pro bono services
Free legal help
Pro bono services are professional work performed without charge, typically by lawyers but also by doctors, consultants, or other professionals.
The Latin phrase means "for the good"—the full form is *pro bono publico*, "for the public good." Law firms often require associates to log pro bono hours representing clients who couldn't otherwise afford legal help: She took the case pro bono.
The term distinguishes charitable professional work from ordinary volunteering.
