precycling
Refuse before acquiring
Precycling is reducing waste before it happens—choosing products with less packaging, buying in bulk, or selecting reusable over disposable items.
The idea is to prevent materials from entering the waste stream rather than dealing with them afterward: Bringing your own bags to the grocery store is a form of precycling.
The term contrasts with recycling, which handles waste after purchase.
