Born too late
Postmature describes a baby born after the normal gestation period, typically beyond 42 weeks.
A postmature infant may show signs of prolonged time in the womb—dry, peeling skin, longer nails, reduced body fat.
The term also applies to the pregnancy itself: a postmature delivery.
The opposite is premature.
