Pill testing is the chemical analysis of recreational drugs—typically ecstasy or MDMA tablets—to identify their contents and detect dangerous adulterants.

Usually offered at music festivals or nightclubs as a harm reduction measure: The festival set up a pill testing tent where people could have their drugs checked anonymously.

Also called drug checking.

The practice remains controversial, with supporters arguing it saves lives and opponents claiming it enables drug use.
